Vipers get 10th win of pod season

May 1, 2021 | 6:00 AM

The Vernon Vipers had goals from Desmond Johnson, Nick Kent and Cam MacDonald as they were able to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat the West Kelowna Warriors 3-2 Friday night at Kal Tire Place.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the first period during a 4 on 4 sequence when Carter Wilkie set up Tyler Cristall who one timed a shot past Roan Clarke. That was the lone tally in the opening frame.

In the second period, Porter Dawson gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead with a nice move around a defender and snap shot just inside the post. Midway through the period, the Vipers scored two goals in 15 seconds after Desmond Johnson scored his first BCHL goal and Nick Kent’s slap shot found a way through traffic.

The Vipers had a chance on a five minute major powerplay, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Once again the game was in 4 on 4 and Trey Taylor set up Cam MacDonald who snapped home his 5th goal of the Pod Season to give the Vipers their first lead. Roan Clarke made a huge save in the dying seconds to help his team secure the victory.

With the win, the Vipers now improve to 10-4-1-1 in the Pod. The Vipers will wrap up their weekend Saturday night when they take on the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at 6 p.m.
