O’Keefe Historic Ranch moves closer to glamping

Apr 27, 2021 | 12:45 PM

Vernon is supporting an application from O’Keefe Historic Ranch, through the Township of Spallumcheen, for a Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) grant to bring glamorous camping (glamping) to the ranch.

The city is also supporting a rezoning application to the township to allow for temporary accommodation.

It is envisioned there will be ten sites on the ranch in the north east corner of the property, with the first two constructed in 2021.

The glamping tents will have no water, sewer or electricity hookup. The work-arounds will be bottled water in each tent, solar chargers for phones and 120 volt devices, cowboy and solar showers, and compostable toilets. A shower/toilet area in the northeast corner of the glamping area would allow guests to easily access these amenities.

Native gardens and walkways will be built. The glamping sites will have an evergreen and shrub windbreak around the fence lines to provide privacy and protection from the wind.

Saskatoon, elderberry and chokecherry landscaped berms to the south will act as a noise buffer and privacy buffer. lnside there are shade trees sheltering the tents with two BBQ/picnic areas.
