New Rural RCMP unit commander on the ground

There is a new face of the RCMP taking charge of the Vernon/North Okanagan Rural policing command.

S/Sgt. Steve Mancini was introduced to the North Okanagan Regional District’s Electoral Area Advisory Committee (EAAC) last week.

Mancini, married and a father of two, is a 19 year veteran of the force, joining up at just 20 years of age.

His father was a 35 year veteran of the RCMP and his sister is also in the force.

Mancini began his career in his native Manitoba in 2002, and transferred west in 2015 to become the detachment commander in Barrière, north of Kamloops in 2015, and most recently was the detachment commander in Ucluelet on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

During his time in both Barriere and Ucluelet he was very involved in community policing and events both in and out of uniform. Mancini is expected to continue that legacy in the North Okanagan with events like ‘Cram the Cruiser’ and other local initiatives.

The electoral area directors introduced themselves and got right down to business, with policing concerns that included boating and tubing on the Shuswap River, homeless encampments and associated crime and other specific area concerns.

Sgt. Mancini will report to Vernon North Okanagan Supt. Shawna Baher.
