Vernon curbside pickup zones a hit

Feb 22, 2021 | 6:18 PM

A trial run for free 10 minute curbside pickup zones in downtown Vernon is being extended until the end of May.

The parking zones were implemented to try bolster business for downtown merchants.

The program was implemented on Dec. 1, 2020 and was set to expire at the end of this month.

There are a dozen sites, where parking meters have been bagged and a free 10 minutes parking sign has been placed.

“Feedback from downtown businesses has been overwhelmingly positive and the Downtown Vernon Association has respectfully requested that the loading zones remain in place for another three months. Bylaw Services has observed that the spaces are well used and has received no complaints or requests for enforcement,” Angela Broadbent, Active Transportation Manager, stated.
