Former Kelowna Rockets defenceman Shea Weber reached a major milestone on Tuesday night, becoming the 349th NHL player to suit up in 1,000 NHL games.

Discovered by Lorne Frey, Weber joined the Rockets on a full-time basis during the 2002-03 season. He was a member of the Rockets 2003 and 2004 WHL Championships as well as the 2004 Memorial Cup team.

Weber, 35, went from being an undrafted WHL player, to being drafted in the second round, 49th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2003.

He appeared in 190 regular-season games for Kelowna, posting 91 points (26G, 65A), 388 penalty minutes and a +59 plus-minus rating. The Sicamous B.C. native suited up in 54 WHL playoff games with the Rockets, where he posted 39 points (13G, 26A), 67 penalty minutes and a +21 plus-minus rating.

The seven-time NHL All-Star began his NHL career in 2006 and made his NHL debut with the Predators on January 6, against the Detroit Red Wings.

Known for his leadership, Weber was named the captain of Nashville in his sixth season.

After 11 seasons with the Predators, he was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens. Prior to his third season in Montreal, he once again had the C stitched onto his jersey.

Weber has had a productive pro career, posting 576 points (220G, 356A) and a +83 plus-minus rating.

His success hasn’t been limited to just the NHL. On the international front, Weber has been a part of many successful Hockey Canada teams, winning Olympic Gold (2010, 2014), World Championship Gold (2007), World Junior Gold (2005) and the World Cup (2017).

Weber joins fellow defenceman Scott Hannan and Duncan Keith as the only Rockets to hit the 1,000 game milestone.
