B.C. Covid update: 16 deaths, 414 new cases

B.C. is reporting 414 new COVID-19 cases, below the average over the last week of 447.

There are 16 more deaths, with none in Interior Health.

Case counts by health region

  • 15,836 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 108)
  • 41,161 — Fraser Health (up by 182)
  • 1,727 — Island Health (up by 26)
  • 6,459 — Interior Health (up by 63)
  • 3,558 — Northern Health (up by 34)
  • 144 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

More than 142-thousand residents have now received their first dose of the COVID vaccine, with 6,417 getting two doses.

Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a statement the pandemic response plan is to continue to allow a careful balance to protect communities while also keeping open as much as possible that is safe to do so.

“To make this work for everyone, we need businesses to have robust safety plans and closely follow all of the public health orders. We also need everyone to do the same: to follow the orders we have in place and use our layers of protection, whether we are out at a restaurant, work, school or home,” Henry and Dix said.

“To support your efforts, where we see locations with high transmissions, public health teams and WorkSafeBC will increase surveillance, focus their investigations and, if need be, take further action to close the gap.”

There are 4,426 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 278 individuals hospitalized with the virus , 80 in intensive or critical care.

Currently, 7,049 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and a further 61,643 people who tested positive are considered recovered.
