Fundraiser delivers for mental health

Feb 2, 2021 | 1:28 PM

A fundraiser organized by Driver Dispatcher and Rice Box owner On Ouch will provide funding to Canadian Mental Health Association, Vernon and District (CHMA)

“We did 133 deliveries and raised about $2,371. We might do it again, as the need is there,” Ouch told Vernon Matters.

The fundraiser held on Saturday, Jan. 30 was inspired by Ouch’s friend, Dallas J. Teale, and all the people who lost their battles with mental illness.

“Dallas’s parents were very honoured and emotional the community came together to help raise money and awareness,” Ouchs said

Five dollars from every delivery went to CHMA, and a number of other businesses and individuals jumped in with top ups, cash donations and per delivery donations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on people’s mental health.

“Of course, this year has been particularly challenging,” Julia Payson, the CHMA Vernon branch executive director said. “But we are here to bring hope and help, and to let our community members know that they are not alone.”
