There will be additional public access points to the Vernon arm of Okanagan Lake that should be complete this year, while other opportunities will be explored by Vernon council.

  • A request for proposal is issued and construction is planned for 2021 at 8797 Okanagan Landing Road.

In 2018 council adopted a lake access plan which identified 15 potential sites for additional lake access with a mandate to develop a minimum of one a year.

“What I see here is a lot of waterfront development in 2021,” Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming said. “The community might end up seeing four or five new lakefront sites.”

There are seven sites that have yet to be brought forward, and only one of those seven doesn’t have significant challenges, like property encroachment, grade and environmental issues.

The site is at 9030 Tronson Road (#1) is in the Adventure Bay area, where an existing trail allows access to the lake. Signage, garbage bins, railings, benches and trail improvements would be upgraded.

The boat launch at 8130 Tronson Road would also be upgraded this year.

Council is expected to tour the remaining sites to determine priorities for 2022 and subsequent years.
