B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 546; 70 new cases in Interior

B.C. has recorded another 546 cases of COVID-19 Thursday (Jan. 28), according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry. That total includes 70 new cases in Interior Health.

The new cases swell the provincial COVID-19 case count to 66,265, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 15,187 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 174)
  • 40,061 — Fraser Health (up by 218)
  • 1,567 — Island Health (up by 30)
  • 6,080 — Interior Health (up by 70)
  • 3,334 — Northern Health (up by 51)
  • 141 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 3)

There are 4,455 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Thursday, up by 156 from Wednesday. Of the active cases, 291 patients are in hospital with 75 in intensive care.

The provincial death toll has grown by 12 to 1,184.

Henry said there are 7,176 people under active public health monitoring because they have been directly exposed to COVID-19.

A total of 59,141 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, Henry said 127,255 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 4,185 second doses.
