“I know that development is unavoidable but it saddens me that more and more of these precious places are being sold off to big developers and becoming “off limits” to the citizens of our community,” Julie Armitage lamented on Facebook.

There was a memorandum of understanding between the developer and the city when the development was first approved, allowing for public access to some trails.

“To date, the only portion of public trail that has been constructed is known as the Tavistock Nature Trail,” Laurie Cordell, Vernon’s manager of Long Range Planning and Sustainability told council. “lt is a very short piece of trail that connects to Crofton Road and the emergency egress.”

Other trails, and the park, in the agreement will be dedicated and developed as the subdivision development is completed.

Directional signage will be put in place on where the public has access to the trail.

Administration will continue to work with the landowner to secure future trails as development occurs in accordance with the agreement.
