Veterans returned to leadership roles with Greater Vernon committee

Two experienced local politicians have been returned to the chair and vice chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee (GVAC).

Vernon councillor and former mayor Akbal Mund was acclaimed as the chair for his third one-year term, while Area “B” director Bob Fleming, who was first elected in 2011, will continue to serve as vice chair.

Both ran unopposed at the election kicking off Wednesday afternoon’s GVAC meeting, held using ZOOM to accomodate COVID-19 restrictions.

GVAC was formed to advise the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) on matters involving Vernon, Coldstream, and Electoral Areas B and C.

The scope of the committee includes providing direction and recommendations to RDNO on multi million dollar functions like the Greater Vernon Water utility and Greater Vernon Parks, Recreation and Culture.
