A Vernon road upgrade, that originally started 10 years ago, is nearly complete.

The City of Vernon says a project on Pleasant Valley Road, from BX Creek to 48th Avenue, is busy with traffic, after being closed since early August.

“The hand railing that was sent for powder coating late last week has been reinstalled between the road and the new multi-use path. This morning, the construction crew completed a small bit of welding and taking down the signage. We are pleased to say Pleasant Valley Road is expected to be open to traffic early this afternoon,” Christy Poirier, manager Communications and Grants, told Vernon Matters.

The multi use pathway is still blocked off, for the time being.

The project started August 10, 2020 and included road reconstruction, new curbs and gutters, sidewalks, a new storm main and outfall into BX Creek, a new storm treatment device to remove sediment, and safety improvement modifications to the 48th Avenue intersection. An original completion date of October 20th was pushed to November 20th, then to November 30th.

Traffic is moving again on Pleasant Valley Road

The multi-million dollar upgrade also includes a multi-use path, and was targeted to be done earlier this fall.

Motorists have been having to detour around the work site, which resulted in a four way stop being placed at 43rd Avenue and 20th Street, which residents successfully lobbied to keep post construction.

The upgrade, which was funded by the gas tax and the city’s infrastructure levy, is the last piece of the Pleasant Valley Road transportation corridor, which began in 2010.
