Downtown merchants concerned about sign visibility

City hall staff have been asked to review pruning procedures for trees lining the streets of downtown Vernon.
At the November 9th council meeting, administration was advised that concerns have been brought up that tree growth has been blocking the visibility of merchant signage.
In a memo back to council, administration indicates that the street trees are pruned annually and provide a variety of benefits including shading to pedestrians, carbon reduction and enhancing the overall aesthetics of the downtown.
Administration plans to meet with the Downtown Vernon Association to discuss solutions that recognize the benefit of street trees, while lessening the impact on businesses.
