Dual railings installed

City says PV Road railing removal was not a mistake

Nov 26, 2020 | 1:45 PM

The construction and removal of a fence on between Pleasant Valley Road and a new multi-use path wasn’t a mistake as earlier reported.

It appeared the railing had been constructed and then removed and was being replaced along the edge of the multi-use pathway due to an embankment.

“The railing was constructed in place due to the curve of the road, and then removed for powder coating. It will be reinstalled next week,” Christy Poirier, Manager, Communications and Grants said. “There will be two railings; one along the roadway and one along the edge of the pathway.”

The railings run along a section of the road from the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park entrance to Silver Star Road.

The multi-million dollar project started in early August and initially had a posted completion date of October 20, which was then changed to November 20 and now appear’s on the City of Vernon website as a November 30 completion. The construction did experience a brief delay due to snow at the beginning of November.

“The road will remain closed until the railing is in, as the construction crew will need to work within the roadway. The project is anticipated to be complete and the road reopened by the end of next week,” Pourier said.

The project is the last piece of the of Pleasant Valley Road transportation corridor, which began in 2010 and includes road reconstruction, new curbs and gutters, sidewalks, a new storm main and outfall into BX Creek, a new storm treatment device to remove sediment, and safety improvement modifications to the 48th Avenue intersection.

The Pleasant Valley Road/48th Avenue intersection is considered a high-collision intersection by ICBC, based on the collision history.
