The City of Vernon will take another run at federal and provincial infrastructure funds for the Lakeview Park revitalization plan.

A previous application in January 2019 to the Canada-British Columbia Investing in Canada lnfrastructure program – Community, Culture and Recreation – was not successful, but a second intake was announced.

The federal and provincial governments would fund 73.33 per cent of the project’s eligible costs or $1,887,576.

Council approved funding the remaining 26.6 per cent ($686,508) of the project’s eligible costs and the cost of the building permit ($25,741) for, up to $712,249, with $356,125 funded by the recreation services major maintenance reserve and $356,124 funded by the 1.9 per cent infrastructure levy.

The existing pool and the proposed new pool and splash pad would be operated by Recreation Services and will be part of the recreation agreement.

The washroom building was identified in the 2015 Parks Master Plan as needing replacement. The building also services the park, playground and ball diamonds which are solely the responsibility of the city.

Opened in 1958, the existing pool is now well beyond it’s expected life cycle

If the grant application is approved construction would start next spring.

Lakeview Park is located at 3001 18th Street in Easthill.
