BCHL update: Bucks make debut, NHL draft profiles

Oct 2, 2020 | 2:52 PM

The BCHL preseason is officially underway. Nanaimo, Penticton, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Victoria and West Kelowna all kicked off their schedules last weekend and another eight teams will play their first games over the next couple of days.

Included in that group making their exhibition debut this weekend are the expansion Cranbrook Bucks. The Bucks are in Trail to take on the Smoke Eaters on Saturday for their first-ever game in the BCHL. No fans will be permitted at the games, so the only way to watch is on HockeyTV.

Shifting gears, the NHL Draft is coming up quickly on Oct. 6 and 7. The draft was moved from the summer to the fall due to the current pandemic and the extended NHL season, so BCHL players find them in the unique situation of participating in training camps, while also keeping an eye on things when it comes to the draft. We have you covered when it comes to BCHL players in the draft this year as we have just completed our NHL Draft Player Profiles, featuring eight draft hopefuls from the league. You can find a few of these below, with the rest available at bchl.ca.

As part of our NHL Draft coverage, we’ve also relaunched the BCHL Podcast! Part 1 dropped last week and Part 2 went live yesterday. Each pod features four interviews with draft hopefuls as they give us their thoughts on this year’s draft, the upcoming BCHL season and much more.
