Special week at Okanagan Science Centre

Sep 21, 2020 | 10:25 AM

Biodiversity is the theme of science and literacy week at the Okanagan Science Centre’.

“British Columbia is rich in biodiversity: from lakes, to oceans, rivers and forest, B.C. is brimming with science,” said Dione Chambers, Okanagan Science Centre executive director. “We have access to so many science opportunities in our backyard, it is important to recognize the regional significance of biodiversity in our community.”

To celebrate the week, the centre is holding two gallery shows: make your own bottled biosphere on Tuesday and learn how to do scientific sketches on Saturday. In addition to the gallery shows the centre is expanding its hours and will be open on Sundays for the fall.

Science literacy week is led by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), which showcases the many ways kids and families can explore and enjoy the diversity of Canadian science. From September 21 to 27, 2020, libraries, museums, science centres, schools and not for-profits are coming together to celebrate this year’s theme, Biodiversity.

The Centre is now open on Sundays with fall hours in place, Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Covid measures are in place.

The Okanagan Science Centre is a charitable non-profit organization that has been inspiring kids and families with hands-on scientific exhibits, programs, and camps for over 30 years.
