BCHL to start exhibition games this month

Sep 18, 2020 | 10:41 AM

The BC Hockey League has set a schedule for the 2020-21 exhibition season, leading up to the start of the regular season in early December.

As part of the league’s extended training camp, the schedule will feature competition between BCHL teams within their cohort of four.

Fans will not be allowed in the buildings due to the COVID pandemic.

“We believe it’s important to have our players playing meaningful games during this extended period before the start of our regular season, in order to stay engaged and game-ready leading into December,” said BCHL Executive Director Steven Cocker. “Our teams are working within the guidelines to provide our players with a high level of development on and off the ice.”

The Vernon Vipers will start their tune-up action by visiting the West Kelowna Warriors Sept. 25, with the Warriors at Kal Tire Place the next night Sept. 26.

The Penticton Vees and Salmon Arm Silverbacks will be the other teams in the Vipers and Warriors cohort group.

Vipers games will be broadcast on 107.5 Beach Radio with the voice of the Vipers, Graham Turnbull.

With the extended training camp, the exhibition season will be significantly expanded compared to years past, with over 100 games scheduled across the league. Some teams will start play as early as Sep. 25, while others will delay until October and November, depending on their training camp model.

The league announced in July that the regular-season would be delayed until December due to the pandemic.
