Roadwork Galore

Detours all over the city

Sep 11, 2020 | 5:36 AM

The City of Vernon’s 2020 capital works program, valued at $17 million dollars, is in full swing and that means lots of road closures through early November.

In 2013 faced with aging and failing infrastructure from roads to sewers, council implemented a 1.9 percent infrastructure levy that is now being spent directly in the improvement of roads, water mains, lighting, intersections, and more.

The main projects underway or soon to begin include.

  • 32 nd Avenue Reconstruction – 33 rd street to 35 th street
  • A new civic park on 37 th avenue on the former Civic Arena site;
  • Sewer Extension to the Okanagan Landing
  • Road and utility work on 39 th avenue.
  • Pleasant Valley Rd – BX Creek to 48 th Avenue
  • Okanagan Landing Rd sewer force main from Tronson Road to the waste water treatment plant to accommodate higher flows due to development

Twenty five (25) smaller projects round out the 2020 capital project list.

The projects don’t include work being done by the provincial government on Highways 97, 97 A and 6.

Motorists are reminded to obey all construction signage and flag persons.
