Suspect enters guilty plea in Vernon homicide

Aug 17, 2020 | 1:48 PM

There has been guilty plea in a three-year-old Vernon homicide case.

Jacqueline Nicole Leavins pleaded guilty to manslaughter in B.C. Supreme Court today.

“The case was adjourned to Dec. 11, 2020 for sentencing,” Alisia Adams from the B.C. Prosecution Service said.

The plea came as her trial for a second-degree murder charge was scheduled to begin.

Leavins, born in 1978, was charged in the death of 50-year-old William Bartz whose body was found in a Vernon apartment on 43rd Avenue in July 2017.

A former co-accused, Richard William Fairgrieve, born in 1973, was found unfit to stand trial earlier this year.
