Graduating students at Vernon Secondary School turned back the clock today as part of grad activities during the pandemic.

The grads got approval from the City of Vernon and School District 22 to spray paint tags on the steep part of 30th Avenue known as Suicide Hill in what had been a tradition by grad classes for many years going back decades.

With safety in mind, the grads arrived in groups of eight to 10 people throughout the day and added their message on the pavement.

Unfortunately rain in the afternoon washed away some of the students’ creations.

It’s believed to be the first grad class to spray paint the hill since 1981.

As part of the road permit approved by the city, traffic is expected to be blocked off from that part of 30th Ave. in lower East Hill until Sept. 4 when the paint will be removed.
