Sandbagging machine brought in to help property owners

May 30, 2020 | 12:58 PM

The Shuswap Emergency Program is bringing in a specialized sandbagging machine to assist Salmon Valley residents with efforts to protect their properties.

The machine will be running at the Silver Creek Firehall with a crew starting in the morning on Saturday, May 30. Operation or the machine may continue on Sunday depending on the needs in the area.

A crew will be on-hand to run the machine, which will rapidly fill sandbags for public pick-up. COVID19 distancing protocols will be in place during the bag-filling process.

Filled sandbags will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Sand and bags are also available to residents for hand-filling.

In addition to the Silver Creek Fire Hall, sand and bags are being made available at 19 other locations in the Shuswap area. Please see the attached map for specific locations, details or any restrictions on availability.

Residents are asked to respect social distancing procedures while filling and loading sandbags.

Sand is being delivered into multiple piles in order to assist with distancing provisions. Please follow directions on the posted COVID-19 signage at these sites.

The Shuswap Emergency Program is here to help. If you have questions or concerns regarding sandbagging or flooding preparations, call 250.833.3351.
