Rough rescue conditions for Vernon Search and Rescue

Feb 10, 2020 | 8:55 AM

Vernon Search and Rescue battled some treacherous conditions in the Monashees to help an injured snowbiker on the weekend.

Late Friday the crew attempted a helicopter rescue but conditions were not favorable so a team set out in freezing rain, blowing snow and blizzard conditions to reach the injured man four hours later.

The snow biker, who suffered serious injuries to his back, was found on Park Nelson Mountain, between Mabel and Sugar lakes, according to VSAR manager Leigh Pearson.

The victim was secured to a sled and taken down the mountain to an ambulance.

Aurora Helicopters and Lumby Mabel Lake Snowmobile Association assisted with the rescue.
