Secondary residence ban on agricultural land reserve prompts reminder from RDNO

Jan 15, 2020 | 1:20 PM

With a ban on secondary residences on agricultural land reserves (ALR) set to take effect on Feb. 22, the Regional District of the North Okanagan is sending out a reminder to residents planning to beat the regulation to get their building permits in soon.

The new regulation prohibits the construction of new secondary residences for a property owner’s immediate family. The regulation includes mobile or manufactured homes.

The ALR announced the changes in February 2019.

The regional district advises if you are planning on building a secondary residence for a family member on ALR land that building permits need to be received by Jan. 23, at least 30 days prior to the deadline so that staff can process the application on time.
