Update: Cause of power outage determined

Sep 26, 2019 | 9:41 AM

Update 4 p.m.

It took several hours, but BC Hydro says everyone who lost power this morning, should be back on by now.

The outage was caused by a fault that caught a power pole on fire near the DND Thursday morning.

At one point, more than 8,000 customers were affected.

“We don’t know what caused the fault but there was a fault in our equipment that burned the pole, and that was the problem. And the pole had to be replaced,” said Dag Sharman, BC Hydro spokesperson.

Update 11 a.m.

Just over 700 homes are still without power in Vernon due to a power outage that first hit around 6:30 this morning.

Initially about 8,300 customers were impacted in Vernon and Coldstream.

BC Hydro says the cause was a downed wire causing a pole fire.

No estimate is provided on when everyone could have their service restored.

BC Hydro says about 2,418 customers are impacted with three outages listed on their web site.
