National business group backs tax cut
It’s now got national support.
A Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce resolution urging the federal government to reduce the excise tax on distilled spirits has received near unanimous (99 per cent) support from delegates at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce conference.
The resolution calls on Ottawa to reduce the excise tax on distilled spirits to $1.77 per litre on the first 150,000 litres of absolute alcohol, and to match the excise rate in the U.S. on an ongoing basis on an ongoing basis.
Greater Vernon Chamber Manager Dione Chambers says they encourage political parties to support the resolution, saying the distilled spirits industry can only grow if there’s substantive regulatory changes at the federal level.
