Fire fighters get out the boots

Sep 25, 2019 | 5:35 AM

Vernon fire fighters are getting ready to “shake their boots.”

The members of the city’s Fire-Rescue service will be at various locations collecting donations for their annual ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign this weekend, part of Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month.

“Community members are invited to stop by and drop off extra change to help fill the boots Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. outside Walmart, Superstore and the Village Green Centre,” stated a city news release.

The donations will be used to provide support for those living with muscular dystrophy – a group of over 160 types of neuromuscular disorders that are characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles.
