Liberal candidate reacts to Trudeau images

Sep 23, 2019 | 6:00 PM

The Liberal candidate for North Okanagan Shuswap says she was disappointed to see the black and brown face images of Justin Trudeau, but she accepts the Liberal leader’s apology, which she calls “sincere.”

Cindy Derkaz, — who is making her second run at the MP’s job — was contacted by Vernon Matters after the story broke last week, and got back to us today.

“Since 2014 when I was first nominated as a candidate for the federal Liberals, I have come to know Justin Trudeau personally. He is one of the most inclusive people I know. He ‘walks the talk.’ One only needs to look at the diversity of the Liberal government and the party’s candidates to see his leadership on inclusion,” Derkaz said in an email.

Derkaz summed up her comments by saying she supports Trudeau’s leadership and is “running hard to be the first woman this riding sends to Ottawa.”
