Update

Five people were on boat when it caught fire on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna Saturday afternoon.

Kelowna fire officials say they all got off the vessel, but two people were treated by B.C. Ambulance for minor smoke inhalation and released.

The boat caught fire around 3:30 p.m.Saturday near The Hotel Eldorado, and was fully involved when fire crews arrived.

“Crews used handlines to protect exposures and knock down the fire,” said Scott Clarke, Platoon Captain. “The pleasure boat was extensively damaged with some damage to the dock. Okanagan Lake was not contaminated with gasoline or oil from the fire.”

The fire is not considered suspicious.

“The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind boaters to ensure all safety and emergency equipment is present and in working order before venturing onto our lakes,” Clarke added.
