Voters will have a number of chances to hear from the local federal election candidates at forums in Vernon.

The National Association of Federal Retirees will host a forum Thursday night (Sept. 19) at the Schubert Centre.

The Sustainable Environment Network Society will focus on environmental issues at the Schubert Centre Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

Independent Living Vernon will host a forum centered on disability issues at the People Place Tuesday, Oct. 1.

That will start with a meet and greet at 6 p.m. and then the forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce and Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society will focus on business and public questions at its forum Oct. 8 at the Performing Arts Centre.

“We are excited to bring together residents and business leaders so they can hear directly from the individuals wanting to represent us in Ottawa, and to pose questions of relevance to our region and country,” Dione Chambers, Greater Vernon Chamber general manager, said.

At 6:30 p.m., the doors will open to the public, with the forum at 7 p.m.

The format will include introductions from the candidates, questions from the sponsor organizations and then the public will have an opportunity to put questions to the candidates.

The candidates for the North Okanagan Shuswap riding are Mel Arnold of the Conservatives (incumbent), Kyle Delfing of the People’s Party, Cindy Derkaz of the Liberals, Marc Reinarz of the Greens and Harwinder Sandhu of the New Democrats.

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce puts on a forum tonight at the Centennial Theatre in Armstrong.
