Update

A husband and wife from Alberta were injured after their plane crashed short of the runway at the Salmon Arm airport Tuesday morning.

Police say the couple’s single engine Cessa was on final approach when the pilot reported the engine stopped around 9 a.m.

“As a result of the lack of power the plane crash landed at the north end of the runway just short of the asphalt,” said Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West.

The 71-year-old pilot, who is also the plane’s owner, and his 73-year-old wife were taken to hospital with one airlifted in serious condition and the other in stable condition.

Original story

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) says two people were injured when a small plane crashed at Salmon Arm’s airport Tuesday morning (Aug. 27).

The incident happened just before 9 a.m.

TSB Pacific Region Manager Yanick Sarazin says the plane landed short of the Shuswap Regional Airport runway and crashed.

Two people were on board at the time.

According to BC Emergency Health Services, one patient was airlifted to hospital in serious condition, while the other was taken to hospital by ground ambulance in stable condition.

Sarazin says the TSB will look into what happened remotely.

“There’s damage to the aircraft and the emergency crew responded on the runway,” said Sarazin. “We are going to do what we call a Class 5 investigation, which [means] we’re going to gather some data and do some analysis, but we’re actually not going to be physically on site.”
