A man was injured in an early morning knife attack in Kelowna.

Police and emergency crews responded at 6:15 a.m. Thursday to the 1100-block of Bernard Avenue for a report of an assault with a weapon.

“Police have learned that the victim had exchanged words with the unknown male suspect in passing. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated to the victim being allegedly slashed with a knife that was produced by the suspect,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The victim received medical attention at the scene from paramedics, who transported him to hospital for further treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect who fled the area on foot, has been described to police as a Caucasian male, 25-30 years of age, about 5 foot 6 inches tall, slim build, with short dark hair. He was seen wearing a black and white back pack and blue jeans.

“Investigators are asking residents, business owners and motorists who may have been in the area around the time of the altercation, to conduct a review of their video surveillance or dash cameras,” stated O’Donaghey.
