Sports awards ceremony this week

The 26th annual Tim Hortons North Okanagan Athlete, Team, and Leadership of the year awards will be handed out this week.

The awards have been presented since 1994, acknowledging individuals, teams and leaders in local sports as chosen by a panel of media and community reps.

They will be presented at Lakers Clubhouse, 7000 Cummins Road in Vernon at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 13.

The ceremony is open to the public, and members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of Tim Hortons.

Last year’s winners were Curt Minard, Team Canada Paralympic snowboarder, as athlete of year; the Vernon Secondary Junior Panthers, who won the B.C. title, were team of the year; and long time Vernon Vipers owner, Duncan Wray, was honoured posthumously with the leadership award.
