Throwback player

Fudger now a Viper

The Vernon Vipers have signed a player with a memorable name.

Eighteen-year-old forward Brett Fudger comes to the team after spending last season with the Cariboo Cougars midget team, and is a resident of Prince Rupert.

“We liked what we saw in Brett during our spring camp,” Coach Jason McKee said. “Brett is big and strong. He skates well and he plays the game the right way.”

The B.C. Hockey League team calls Fudger a “throwback” type player, adding former snakes like Aaron Volpatti, Chris Crowell, and Jesse Lansdell will come to mind.

“With the Cariboo Cougars Midget team this past season, Brett played what he describes as ‘a big-sized character role, heavy on the forecheck, a gritty style of play,’” according to a post on the Vipers’ website.

Fuder is listed at 6-1 and is currently 185 pounds.

“Expect him to be bigger by training camp in late August because as he puts it, “I’m working hard in the gym every day,”’ the post added.

Fudger will start training at Kal Tire Place’s new gym, starting in mid-July when he moves to Vernon.

The Vipers have also announced Connor Marritt has committed to Northern Michigan University for the 2020-21 season.
