Locals arrested for a good cause

It’s not very often that people get shoved in the slammer for having too much fun, but that is exactly what happened at the 6th annual Jail & Bail on Thursday.

Local business leaders and politicians took part in the event which supports the Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation.

” It’s the best thing ever it’s for the kids,” said Vernon realtor John Deak.

Even Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming was not safe from an arrest.

He was handcuffed and arrested by police for not sharing cookies and for having too many smiles.

His bail was set at $2500.

“I’m only 10 per cent of the way here, come on,” he said in an earlier interview from jail with Beach Radio News.

Roughly $14,000 was raised, according to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

The Cops For Kids Charitable Foundation generates money to help children who have experienced a medical, physical, or traumatic crisis in their lifetime.

Cops from throughout the southeast district of B.C embark on a 10- day bike trip to raise awareness for the cause.

“It’s grueling it’s challenging, we go with the weather, it does not matter what kind of weather we get, we need to go, ” said Cst. Nick Reimarr.

“It’s an awesome feeling, you know to meet the families, and that’s what we have the chance to do here, all the money raised here goes for the kids in our community,” he added.

The ride starts in Kelowna and occurs in September every year.
