Survey dials up cellphone contracts

Survey dials up cellphone contracts

May 29, 2019 | 12:32 PM

The Province is looking for feedback from British Columbians on cellphone contracts.

A public survey has been launched to identify ways to promote transparency and fairness and help government in reviewing B.C.’s current consumer protection laws.

Public safety minister Mike Farnworth says cellphones are a part of everyday life and people deserve to understand where their money is going and have tools to make informed choices about their services.

“We will also use the results to advocate for British Columbians’ concerns to the federal government and encourage the delivery of more flexible, transparent and affordable cellphone options in B.C.,” says Farnworth.

The survey runs from today until July 5, and takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Ninety-two (92) per cent of British Columbians have at least one cellphone in their household, versus 59% having a landline.

Cellphone use as a primary communications device is on the rise: Canada-wide in 2017, 36% of households reported having only a cellphone and no landline, compared with 15.5% of households in 2012.
