Update

The District of Lake Country in conjunction with Interior Health has rescinded a Boil Water Notice on the Okanagan Lake Distribution System issued May 23.

“All bacterial testing results and disinfection (chlorine) levels are satisfactory in the distribution system, and the water is now returned to a “Good” rating,” says a District release.

The District of Lake Country has issued a boil water notice for all customers on the Okanagan Lake source due to a water main break.

The notice will remain in effect until next week, and customers in the affected area are advised to drink boiled water or a safe alternative.

More than 100 properties in Kelowna near the Lake Country border are also impacted.

Water intended for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers could also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device.

“The District of Lake Country is endeavoring to rectify this situation as quickly as possible,” says a news release from the District.

In accordance with Interior Health requirements, owners of all public facilities must post “Boil Water Notices” at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public.

Public fountains and taps may also be turned off.

The District says its taking additional measures to reduce risk, and a notification will be issued when water quality has improved.
