Vernon council finalizes town hall plans

It has a date, it has a time, and it has a location.

Vernon City Council finalized the details of its’ town hall meeting on Monday.

The meeting will be held on June 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vernon Recreation Centre Auditorium.

Council also appointed CTQ consulting as a facilitator for the meeting.

According to their website, CTQ consulting is an engineering, planning, and urban design firm based out of Kelowna.

The city will be spending $8,000 in order to hold the meeting which is meant to give residents and business owners an outlet to  express concerns surrounding vagrancy, open drug use, crime and the overdose prevention site.

But the meeting has been the subject of debate among some city councillors who argue that the town hall will not spur any solutions and will only bring up issues already discussed.

“We’ll have really pissed-off people repeating themselves again,” said City Councillor Kelly Fehr at last council meeting on May 13.

“As directed by Council, speakers will be allocated a maximum of 2 minutes to bring forward their remarks and solutions,” says a City news release.
