May 26, 2019 | 10:00 PM

Vernon’s cycling lanes are expected to be busier the next few days.

Bike to work and school week kicked off today with events over the next four days.

The program encourages everyday cycling, and participants can win prizes.

“Participants who register and log at least one trip by bike online at www.biketowork.ca/north-okanagan will be eligible to win exciting prizes, including a trip for two to Prosecco, Italy sponsored by Exodus Travels, $500 to a local bike shop of your choice sponsored by CUPE 626, and much more,” says a City news release.

The City says over 1,600 Vernon and North Okanagan residents participated last year.

(That’s) a 27% increase from 2017, cycling a total of 23,069 km and saving 4,999 kg of greenhouse gas emissions — demonstrating of a shift towards healthy, sustainable transportation,” says the release.

Bikers are invited to stop in for a pancake breakfast at Sun Country Cycle at 1340 Kalamalka Lake Road from 7 to 9 this morning.
