Spruce Kings Take Control In BCHL Final

Apr 13, 2019 | 9:36 PM

Different game, but almost the same result.

The Prince George Spruce Kings took a 2 games to none lead on the Vernon Vipers in the Fred Page Cup-BCHL Final with a 4-1 win Saturday night.

A sold-out crowd of 2,112 took in the game at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena in Prince George.

Ben Brar had 2 goals, including an empty netter in the final minute, to lead the Kings who are now 14 and 1 in this year’s playoffs.

Vernon falls to 12 and 7, getting their lone goal from Jesse Lansdell, his 6th of the post season.

The Kings took the opening game in similar fashion, winning 3-1, and have never trailed in the series.

Vipers coach Mark Ferner says his team played well but came up short.

“Again we feel like we weren’t rewarded for our hard work. And it’s going to be hard. They’re a good team but we need to find some more urgency in our game,” said Ferner to Graham Turnbull on the Beach Radio post game show.

The next two games will be at Kal Tire Place in Vernon, with game 3 Tuesday at 7 pm and game 4 Wednesday.
