Study Into New Pool and Other Rec Venues

Study Into New Pool and Other Rec Venues Could Proceed

Apr 8, 2019 | 6:35 AM

It’s good news for anyone hoping to see a new aquatic centre in Vernon someday.

City staff are recommending council move ahead with finding companies (request for proposals) to conduct a feasibility study into facilities like a new pool, gymnasiums and fitness spaces.

The public said there was a need for new pool and other recreation venues as part of last year’s Recreation Master Plan.

“While the Greater Vernon Recreation Master Plan broadly established the “Identified Needs” for facility betterment and new facility development, the completed study
will provide a recommended preferred option for the creation of a new Active Living Centre within Greater Vernon including the size, type, location and costs (both capital and operational) of facilities to be constructed, either as one project or as phases, and for the enhancement of the existing Vernon Aquatic Centre,” writes Doug Ross, Director Recreation Services, in a report to council.
