Local Athletes Part of Championship Team

Erik Colwell and Ben Morin from Vernon were part of the Under-18 curling team that won the BC Championship in Victoria.

Colwell, who was the skip, and his crew next go to to U-18 nationals, April 2-7 in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

In the final on Sunday, Team Colwell, representing Vernon, Kamloops and Invermere, defeated Team Sato of the Royal City Curling Club, who had just returned from the Canada Winter Games with a gold medal for Team BC.

“Team Colwell were able to steal two points in the fourth end and four points in the eighth end for an eventual 9-4 win over the champions,” says a release from Curl BC.

The winning team features skip Erik Colwell from Vernon, along with Mitchell Kopytko (Kamloops), Ben Morin (Vernon) and Tyler Powell (Invermere).

Team Buchy captured the women’s title, defeating Team Taylor 10-2 in six ends.

Team Buchy includes Kimberley’s Kaila Buchy and Arissa Toffolo, along with third Katelyn McGillivray of Kelowna and Fort St John’s Hannah Lindner.
