Call For More Winter Games Volunteers

Jan 14, 2019 | 1:40 PM

More volunteers are needed for the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games next month in Greater Vernon.

Organizers say about 400 volunteers have signed up so far, with another 400 needed for the games Feb. 21 to 23 featuring 800 athletes with intellectual disabilities along with coaches and staff.

“There is a wide range of rewarding roles available, ranging from sport and food services to transportation and security. Volunteers with medical and health-care backgrounds – such as nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and care aides – are particularly needed for specific roles,” says a Games news release.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on February 21, followed by competition throughout February 22 and 23.

A Closing Ceremony, open only to Games competitors, will be held on February 23, followed by a volunteer recognition breakfast on February 24.
