Vipers Active At Trade Deadline

Vipers Active At Trade Deadline

Jan 10, 2019 | 4:38 PM

Vernon Vipers made a couple of deals prior to the junior hockey trade deadline at 3 pm today.

20 year old Mitch Andres was sent to the Chilliwack Chiefs for 18 year old Will Dow Kenny in a swap of defencemen.

“It’s always tough to make a trade,” says Vipers head coach and GM Mark Ferner. “In this case, Mitch Andres was a warrior for us and was a big piece to our blue line. We know what we’re getting in Will, and we know that Mitch is going to a great organization in Chilliwack.”

Dow Kenny, who is from Abbotsford, was originally traded by the Vipers in the off season for Carver Watson.  He has 1 goal and 7 points in 34 games with the Chiefs.

The Vipers also added 20 year old forward Lane Zablocki who was released by the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets.

Zablocki is a third round pick of the Detroit Red Wings and has played in 22 games with the Rockets this season picking up 4 goals and 8 assists.

“We felt with the trouble we’ve had scoring, the addition of Lane will really help fill that void,” added Ferner. “He’s a proven scorer that we feel will come in and make a big impact.”

The Vipers host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Friday night at 7 pm at Kal Tire Place.
