Arena Upgrade Proceeding

Plans are moving ahead to upgrade the Pat Duke Memorial Arena in Lumby.

The community won 100-thousand dollars for the facility for being named Kraft Hockeyville in 2016.

Tannis Nelson, Community Services manager with the Regional District of North Okanagan, says the draft concept plan and costs are being finalized, with an open house to be held in February.

The upgrade will add several new change rooms — some specifically for females — along with upgraded storage, referee facilities, and a heated lobby and viewing area.

“Due to an insufficient number of change rooms, female ice users have had inadequate facilities during co-ed ice times,” says. “The arena also creates challenges for users with mobility issues, and due to its age, no longer meets accessibility standards.”

Nelson says the project will add four new change rooms through expansion and renovation of the existing building, and two additional change rooms through renovation of the existing change room area.
