The Canada Games Torch Relay has left its mark on Vernon.

Over 100 people were on hand as Mayor Victor Cumming, MLA Eric Foster, MP Mel Arnold and Blair Gronlund from sponsor MNP walked the torch from City Hall to the Vernon Rec Centre Tuesday afternoon where a community celebration was held.

“It is my pleasure to welcome the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay to Vernon,” said Cumming at a reception at the Halina Centre. “The Canada Games continues the strong tradition of amateur sporting competition in Canada, and the MNP Relay is the ribbon that connects all Canadians to the Games.”

The relay is making stops in almost 50 communities as it makes its way to Red Deer Alberta where the games will start in mid February.

The Games will feature over 150 events in 19 sports with up to 3,600 participants.
