The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince George Cougars 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

The two clubs traded chances throughout the first, but the Cougars were the only team to get onto the board in the opening frame. Josh Maser(3) shoveled one into the net 17:29 into the period to give the Cougars the lead.

The Rockets responded 1:25 into the second when Eric Gardiner(2) rifled one past Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier on the power play. Defender Lassi Thomson(7) then went end to end to score a phenomenal goal to give the Rockets their first lead of the night, 8:53 into the period. Jackson Leppard (3) tied the game for Prince George 10:47 into the power play on the power play.

Kelowna started the third with a five on three power play, Kyle Topping(6) capitalized on it 1:08 into the third. Ryan Schoettler (3) tied the game at 4:52 for the Cougars during four on four action.

Extra time was needed in this game, and just like the period before the Rockets began overtime with a power play. It took the Rockets just 43 seconds to end the game, Nolan Foote scored his eighth of the season to give the Rockets their second straight win.

Kelowna’s record improves to 6-10-0-0.

Roman Basran backstopped the Rockets to victory turning away 30 of 33 shots he faced, his record improves to 4-7-0-0.

The Rockets are back in action next Saturday, when they face the Brandon Wheat Kings.
