New Sports Facility Ready

New Sports Facility Ready

Aug 13, 2018 | 9:38 AM

UPDATE: 3 p.m.

The city’s fastest growing sport has a new home.

The Vernon Pickleball Association will be opening its new, 12-court facility at Marshall Field Saturday Aug. 25.

Association spokesperson Anne Longley says the project came in on budget at 600-thousand dollars, with the cost being shared with local government.

“We did have to take a loan from the City of Vernon which we will be repaying over the next ten years so we are definitely still doing ongoing fundraising efforts to help pay for the cost of the courts,” Longley says, pointing out the facility came in on time and on budget.

The local association now has over 350 members.

Longley says the public is invited to attend the event on the 25th. It gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
