Work Progressing On Marshall Field Pickleball Court

If you go by Marshall Field, you’ll see a lot of work perimeter fencing and net posts that has been done on the pickleball court there.

Ann Longley from the Vernon Pickleball Association says members of the Association will vote July 25th on the offer from the city on a borrowing agreement.

The city is prepared to loan the association 145 thousand dollars to finish the court, with a promise to pay it back within ten years.

“The vote will require two-thirds approval of the membership. And once the vote is done then we can continue on and the vinyl surface can be done if the vote is a positive vote.”

If not, the court will still be completed without the vinyl surface.

“There is still final site contouring and the surface coat that needs to be done. but the pickleball association members raised close to a hundred thousand dollars of their own to put towards the court but we still had the shortfall of 145 thousand.”

Longley says she can’t anticipate which way the vote will go but says members are super-pumped at getting the courts finished.

Later, there are other options they’d like to see looked at.

“Benches, the roofed in walkway, lighting, curbing for the parking and a paved parking lot. So there is still a lot more to be done, but we will have the courts done one way or another in August, hopefully by about mid-August.”

Longley says it’s hard to pin-point a date because that’s dependent on the contractors and when they can complete the work.
