Club Lands City Support

Apr 23, 2018 | 6:47 PM

Vernon council has given support in principal to a request for funding from a local sports group.

The North Valley Gymnastics Society is seeking $225,000 for its new 8,500 square foot gymnasium under construction on 31st Street next to Chaser’s Bottle Depot.

Council’s support is conditional on the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee also agreeing to financially support it.

Paul Williamson, a director with the society, says it’s a positive development.

“As we move forward to GVAC, we hope to get their support as well and we hope we’ll be able to move on,” Williamson told Beach Radio News.

Williamson says their new building is close to completion, and they will use private sources if they don’t get local government funding.

“Yes the project is going ahead. It’s 80 percent complete.”

The club hopes to move into its new building May 31, after running out of room at its current leased space with 575 weekly students.

Williamson says Kalamalka Rotary has provided $20,000 for the new facility.

GVAC will discuss the issue at its next meeting May 3.
